The YouTuber “HistoryLegends” has a good video analyzing the Pentagon’s options for an amphibious assault against Iran. He argues that seizing Kharg Island would be a high-risk low-reward strategy that would leave American forces vulnerable to Iranian drones and artillery. Taking Qeshm Island promises control over the Strait of Hormuz, but would demand American mission creep into the Iranian coastline. He explains that the best option would be an amphibious landing in the Chabahar Bay, an area in southern Iran where America has established aerial and naval supremacy. A Sunni minority people called the Balochs live in the area, and their extremists have been in conflict with Tehran. The Marines could establish a Forward Operating Base there, baiting the Iranians rather than become sitting ducks.

It is endearing that one can still believe that an administration that went into this war without a strategy and a purpose would suddenly develop a methodical and long-term approach. Trump’s team do not believe they are losing the war. They believe that their problems are an enemy too stupid to know they have been defeated, a domestic media that whines about how long this war is taking, and unfaithful doomsayers (such as Joe Kent and Tucker Carlson).
