Welcome to Boomer Hell
The Boomers insist on making the world safe for their delusions.
One of the most highly anticipated films of the summer, Steven Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day” came out yesterday. It is certifiably fresh on the website Rotten Tomatoes, and has received a more enthusiastic response from film critics (whom 81% approve) than from viewers (whom 75% approve). Spielberg himself generated controversy when he remarked that the film could make Christians question their faith.
After watching the film, David Icke warned that the film’s sympathetic portrayal of aliens is meant to condition us to welcome our new alien overlords. With the White House promising to release UFO files, conspiracy theorists believe that the government is preparing a fake alien invasion to justify an AI surveillance state.
This narrative is neat and tidy, but there is a glaring problem: “Disclosure Day” is unwatchable, and its premise stupid. The movie’s heroes attempt to broadcast a video on television to reveal a government alien cover-up, and dark sinister forces attempt to stop them. Why couldn’t they just upload their video to YouTube like I do? Who watches the television evening news anymore? Why couldn’t the powers-that-be flood the Internet with fake alien videos, and have Ben Shapiro promote them?
The movie was written and directed by Steven Spielberg, who is 79 years old. “Disclosure Day” marks his 33rd film, and he spent two months in the summer of 2023 hammering out the plot outline. With his power and status, he could have hired an amazing team of writers to imagine a seductive and hypnotic story that would have viewers praying for an alien invasion. Unfortunately, the writer he did hire (David Koepp) adhered loyally to Spielberg’s story, and that’s why “Disclosure Day” is so boring and incoherent.
“Disclosure Day” is not part of a diabolical plot – we could only wish that our overlords were so clever and strategic. The movie is the by-product of the delusions of a boomer so rich and powerful he can force-feed his narcissism down our throats.
